The duration of symptoms does not impact clinical outcomes following lumbar decompression surgery
Spine Feb 20, 2019
Movassaghi K, et al. - Researchers estimated 210 individuals to assess the influence of duration of symptoms (DOS) on clinical outcomes in subjects undergoing lumbar decompression from 2008 to 2015. They noticed cases with DOS of 1 year or greater exhibited significantly lower 12-Item Short Form Mental and Physical Survey (SF-12) scores. They found no significant impact of symptom chronicity on postoperative clinical outcomes, reoperation rates, or patient satisfaction. They concluded that the suspension did not negatively influence surgical outcomes.
