Slomp FJ, et al. - An analysis was performed to examine and explain the determinants of meaning in acute pain following a traumatic injury. The authors revealed that both the technical and personal components of healthcare quality had the potential to increase the perception of pain. In an acute pain event, meanings were primarily related to the determinants of incongruent care and the personal response to that determinant: anxiety.
