The clinicopathologic features of chronic active Epstein-Barr virus infective enteritis

Modern Pathology Oct 11, 2018

Liu R, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for analyzing the clinicopathologic features of chronic active Epstein–Barr virus infective enteritis (CAEBV enteritis). For this investigation, they summarized the clinicopathologic features of 11 subjects with CAEBV enteritis and their differences from inflammatory bowel disease. Findings revealed that there are similarities between CAEBV enteritis and inflammatory bowel disease, yet a few symptoms, signs, and indexes such as intermittent fever, hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, lymphadenopathy, and elevated C-reactive protein, Epstein–Barr virus DNA are characteristics to distinguish CAEBV enteritis and inflammation. In addition, histopathological features help the discrimination. To exclude CAEBV enteritis, serum Epstein–Barr virus DNA and intestinal tissue in situ hybridization for Epstein–Barr virus-encoded RNA are suggested.
