The cerebrospinal fluid CD4/CD8 ratio and interleukin-6 and -10 levels in neurosarcoidosis: A multicenter, pragmatic, comparative study
European Journal of Neurology Apr 30, 2019
Chazal T, et al. – Because neurosarcoidosis is a rare inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology, researchers assessed the value of T/B lymphocyte population counts and the concentrations of interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-10 in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of patients with neurosarcoidosis. Participants underwent CSF analysis between 2012 and 2017. The study sample consisted of 43 patients with neurosarcoidosis, 14 with multiple sclerosis (MS), and 48 with other inflammatory disorders. The levels of IL-6 were higher in patients with sarcoidosis than in patients with MS. Compared to MS and other inflammatory disorders, the CSF CD4/CD8 ratio and IL-6 concentrations were increased in neurosarcoidosis. A concentration of CSF IL-6 > 50 pg/mL was linked to neurosarcoidosis relapse or progression. In patients with neurosarcoidosis, IL-10 levels may be higher than normal.
