The cerebrospinal fluid CD4/CD8 ratio and interleukin-6 and -10 levels in neurosarcoidosis: A multicenter, pragmatic, comparative study
European Journal of Neurology Jun 29, 2019
Chazal T, et al. - In the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of patients with neurosarcoidosis, researchers assessed the value of T/B lymphocyte population counts and the concentrations of the cytokines interleukin (IL) 6 and IL-10. The study sample consisted of patients with neurosarcoidosis who had CSF analysis between 2012 and 2017 as well as several control populations. For this investigation, they analyzed 43 patients with neurosarcoidosis, 14 with multiple sclerosis (MS) and 48 with other inflammatory disorders. Findings revealed that the levels of IL-6 were higher in patients with sarcoidosis than in patients with MS. Compared to MS and other inflammatory disorders, the CSF CD4/CD8 ratio and IL-6 concentrations were increased in neurosarcoidosis. Neurosarcoidosis relapse or progression was connected to a concentration of CSF IL-6 > 50 pg/mL. Outcomes suggested that, in neurosarcoidosis, IL-10 levels may be elevated.
