The association of religiosity with suicidal ideation and suicide attempts in the United Kingdom
Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica Oct 23, 2018
Jacob L, et al. - Researchers examined the link between religiosity and suicidality (suicidal ideation and suicide attempts) in a UK nationally representative sample, using multivariable logistic regression models adjusted for sociodemographic, behavioral, and psychopathological factors. They analyzed cross-sectional data from 7,403 people who participated in the 2007 Adult Psychiatric Morbidity Survey, and found a negative association of religiosity with suicidality in the UK. Findings revealed a lower prevalence of past 12-month suicidal ideation, past 12-month suicide attempts, lifetime suicidal ideation, and lifetime suicide attempts among those with a religion vs those without a religion.
