The association of depression and all-cause and cause-specific mortality: An umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses
BMC Medicine Jul 25, 2018
Machado MO, et al. - Researchers conducted an umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses that evaluated the relationship between depression and all-cause and cause-specific mortality. For this analysis, they searched PubMed, PsycINFO, and Embase electronic databases through January 20, 2018. The outcomes revealed that associations of depression and all-cause mortality in patients after acute myocardial infarction, in individuals with heart failure, in cancer patients and in addition in samples from mixed settings met criteria for highly suggestive evidence. The findings from the present study suggested that the evidence for causal associations of depression and all-cause mortality remains inconclusive.
