The association between use of statin or aspirin and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma: A nested case-control study in a Korean nationwide cohort
Cancer Medicine Oct 26, 2019
Choi JH, Lee SH, Huh G, et al. - Researchers used a nationwide large cohort to determine the link between the use of statin or aspirin and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) in this nested case-control study. They established PDAC cases and controls, matched to cases by age, gender, income, and index year at a 1:5 ratio. They also investigated the independent risk factors of PDAC by using multivariate logistic regression analyses. They found that an independent risk for PDAC was conferred by diabetes mellitus, chronic and acute pancreatitis, pancreatic cystic lesions, and cholelithiasis. Reduced risk of PDAC incidence was evident in relation to statin use but not in relation to aspirin use. Also, reduced risk of PDAC incidence was observed in correlation with both statin use and aspirin use in patients with risk factors.
