The application of fibrin sealant for the prevention of lymphocele after lymphadenectomy in patients with gynecological malignancies: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Gynecologic Oncology Mar 23, 2019
Prodromidou A, et al. - In patients with gynecological malignancies, researchers analyzed evidence from six relevant randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) involving 481 patients to assess the impact of use of fibrin-collagen sealants on lymph node dissection areas and lymphocele formation following lymphadenectomy. Relevant articles published up to November 2018 were identified via a systematic search of five electronic databases. In women undergoing pelvic and/or para-aortic lymphadenectomy due to gynecologic cancer, the use of fibrin sealants was safe according to the findings but revealed no certainty of its benefit. Furthermore, effective attenuation in the duration and volume of drainage was seen, but it was not related to difference in the incidence of lymphocele.
