Patston LLM, et al. - The present study was undertaken to evaluate the acceptability and feasibility of screening for alcohol and drug misuse in a hospital emergency department (ED). Findings revealed that high patient-to-nurse ratios in the ED currently precluded nurses from providing consistent screening and brief intervention (SBI) to all eligible patients. However, there were several practical considerations highlighted here that could help nurses increase the participation rate.
