The A.L.A.N. score identifies prognostic classes in advanced biliary cancer patients receiving first-line chemotherapy
European Journal of Cancer Jul 19, 2019
Salati M, et al. - Together with a comprehensive panel of immune-inflammatory markers, researchers examined the prognostic value of clinical factors in advanced biliary cancer (ABC) patients treated with first-line chemotherapy in order to develop a prognostic model to improve daily practice risk stratification for patients. As an exploratory cohort, a cohort of 123 ABC patients undergoing first-line chemotherapy was used to identify the prognostic value of regularly conducted laboratory testing in clinical practice. To study the connection between the variables and overall survival (OS), Kaplan–Meier analysis was used. In the exploratory cohort, baseline actual neutrophil count, lymphocytes-monocytes ratio, neutrophil-lymphocytes ratio and albumin (A.L.A.N.) associated with OS at the multivariate analysis. Findings suggested that the A.L.A.N score can be derived from routinely recorded variables in clinical practice and can provide a prognostic evaluation of ABC patients considered for first-line therapy.
