Testosterone replacement therapy is associated with an increased risk of urolithiasis
World Journal of Urology Mar 27, 2019
McClintock TR, et al. - In this population-based matched cohort study, researchers examined the association of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) with an enhanced risk of urolithiasis. They selected 26,586 pairs and observed 482 stone-related events at 2 years in the non-TRT group when compared to 659 in the TRT group. they noticed such variations for topical and injection therapy-type subgroups, not for the pellet. No significant variation in stone episodes based on secondary polycythemia diagnosis was reported, which was used as a secondary indicator of higher on-treatment testosterone levels.
