Temporal trends in prevalence of tricuspid valve disease in hospitalized patients in the United States
The American Journal of Cardiology Apr 08, 2020
Kolte D, et al. - Researchers investigated the overall as well as age- and gender-specific prevalence and temporal trends in prevalence of tricuspid valve disease (TVD) among hospitalized patients in the US. For this purpose, they used the National Inpatient Sample. The analysis involved patients ≥ 50 years of age with all-cause and heart failure (HF) hospitalizations from January 2006 to September 2015 in the US. Findings revealed that over the past several years, TVD prevalence has increased in all hospitalized patients as well as in those hospitalized with HF, especially in those ≥ 85 years of age and in females. Experts noted that nearly 1 in 5 hospitalizations with a diagnosis of TVD was because of HF. No change was evident in in-hospital mortality as well as length of stay in patients with TVD whereas a rise in the expenses of hospitalization was obvious during the study duration.
