Systemic use of calcium channel blockers associated with less increase in central retinal thickness after uncomplicated cataract surgery
Acta Ophthalmologica Sep 10, 2018
Danni R, et al. - Researchers assessed the role of systemic medication after uneventful cataract surgery on the risk of pseudophakic cystoid macular edema (PCME). In eyes at risk of PCME, like those with postoperative steroid monotherapy, they noted a possibility of systemic vasoactive medication being protective against central retinal thickness (CRT) change as a result of cataract surgery. The inclusion of all systemic medications showing statistical significance together with diabetes status in multivariable analysis revealed that the use of calcium channel blockers was an independent protective factor against macular swelling at 28 days.
