Systematic review and meta-analysis of catheter ablation of ventricular tachycardia in ischemic heart disease
Heart Rhythm May 17, 2019
Martinez BK, et al. - Given that catheter ablation (CA) may attenuate the risk for ventricular tachycardia (VT) in patients with ischemic heart disease (IHD), researchers analyzed evidence from 5 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) (N = 635 patients) with 6 months to 27.9 months of follow-up, to determine the outcomes of CA of VT in patients with IHD. The included RCTs reported the comparison between a strategy of CA vs no ablation in patients with IHD and an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), and were identified from MEDLINE, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. A significant decrease in the odds of appropriate ICD therapies, appropriate ICD shocks, VT storm, and cardiac hospitalizations was observed in relation to CA in patients with IHD.
