Sustained gazing causes measurable decline in visual function of patients with dry eye
American Journal of Ophthalmology Oct 16, 2019
Akpek EK, et al. - In this prospective, comparative before-and-after study, researchers evaluated the impacts of sustained gazing on the visual function of dry eye patients. The study sample consisted of 176 individuals with dry eye and 33 controls aged ≥ 50 years. Dry eye symptomatology along and clinical parameters have been evaluated. At baseline, no differences were found between dry eye patients vs controls with respect to reading speed or the time to read the excerpt. Findings suggested that sustained gazing, like silent reading, has a measurable negative impact on dry eye patients' visual performance. Corneal staining reflects a visually important clinical parameter.
