Survival trends of patients with surgically resected gastric cardia cancer from 1988 to 2015: A population-based study in the United States
American Journal of Clinical Oncology Jun 29, 2019
Ze-Long Y, et al. - Using a population-based data in the United States, researchers investigated the survival trends of gastric cardia cancer (GCC) patients over time. From the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database, they analyzed the data of a total of 9,044 surgically resected GCC patients from 1988 to 2015 and identified their median overall survival time was 27 (interquartile range, 12 to 99) months and their median disease-specific survival time of 32 (interquartile range, 13 to 320) months. Outcomes suggest that in the United States, a significant improvement in survival rates of surgically resected GCC patients had occurred from 1988 to 1997 to 2008 to 2015, which might be linked to the early discovery of GCC, higher utilization of adequate lymph nodes examined, and chemoradiotherapy.
