Surgical outcomes of 27-gauge and 25-gauge vitrectomy day surgery for proliferative diabetic retinopathy
International Ophthalmology Oct 09, 2018
Naruse Z, et al. - Authors compared the postoperative outcomes of 27-gauge (G) and 25-G vitrectomy conducted as day surgery for proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). They analyzed 185 PDR patients underwent primary vitrectomy. Findings did not reveal significant differences between the 27-G and 25-G groups in preoperative Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study score, age, or preoperative intraocular pressure. Findings suggested that, compared to 25-G system, the 27-G system was equally safe and useful when used for PDR. Earlier recovery of postoperative visual acuity could be achieved with 27-G system. Between two groups, they did not note any difference in the incidence of postoperative retinal detachment and reoperation due to vitreous hemorrhage.
