Surgical implant generation network (SIGN) fin nail vs SIGN standard intramedullary nail for distal diaphyseal femur fractures treated via retrograde approach
Injury Sep 14, 2019
Liu MB, Ali SH, Haonga BT, et al. - In this study, outcomes of distal diaphyseal femur fractures treated with SIGN fin nail vs SIGN standard intramedullary nail were determined. Researchers conducted a prospective cohort study at a single tertiary referral center in Tanzania. Seventy-four (85%) of 85 patients with distal diaphyseal femur fractures treated with either retrograde SIGN Standard Nail or Fin Nail completed the minimum 1-year follow-up. Outcomes associated with the SIGN Fin Nail vs the SIGN Standard Intramedullary Nail at 1 year were comparable. Findings suggest a possible utility of the SIGN Fin Nail as an alternative to Standard locked IM nails for fixation of distal diaphyseal femur fractures.
