Surgery for elderly patients with resectable pancreatic cancer, a comparison with non-surgical treatments: A retrospective study outcomes of resectable pancreatic cancer
BMC Cancer Nov 23, 2019
Park HM, et al. - Among 49 elderly patients aged (≥ 75 years) with resectable pancreatic cancer, researchers compared prognostic outcomes of undergoing vs not undergoing surgical resection and identified factors related to prognosis. Patients with resectable pancreatic cancer diagnosed from January 2003 to December 2014 at the National Cancer Center, Korea, were retrospectively analyzed. Between the two groups, no significant difference was found in demographics. For elderly patients with resectable pancreatic cancer, surgical resection lead to better prognosis than non-surgical resection. With the exception of patients with a high Charlson comorbidity index, an aggressive surgical procedure tends to favor elderly patients with resectable pancreatic cancer.
