Super and non-responders to catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation: A quality-of-life assessment using patient reported outcomes
Circulation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology Jul 24, 2021
Farwati M, Wazni OM, Tarakji KG, et al. - Researchers sought to determine the clinical features underlying differential response in quality of life (QoL) post-AF (atrial fibrillation) ablation (with or without arrhythmia recurrence). They analyzed 956 patients (25% females, mean age 63.9). The majority of the patients (~80%) were identified as super responders (n=761), mild/moderate improvement was experienced by 138 (14.4%), and 57 (5.9%) were non-responders. According to observations, AF ablation conferred a significant QoL benefit in most of the patients. A remarkable QoL improvement post-ablation was shown to be predicted by factors such as freedom from arrhythmia recurrence and lower AF burden.
