Study on the safety and effectiveness of drug-coated balloons in patients with acute myocardial infarction
Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery Jun 25, 2021
good L, Yellow D, King A, et al. - Researchers investigated whether drug-coated balloons (DCB) are safe and effective for patients with acute myocardial infarction. Participants were 80 patients admitted to the hospital for ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) from January 2018 to December 2019. They were randomly categorized into a Yinyi (Liaoning) Biotech Bingo Drug Coated Balloon treatment group (balloon group, n = 38) and a drug-eluting stent treatment group (stent group, n = 42). Within 1 year, major adverse cardiovascular events incidence in the balloon group was estimated to be 11%, while it was 12% in the stent group. Findings revealed that when percutaneous coronary intervention was used for STEMI, only DCB therapy was shown to be safe as well as effective, and has demonstrated good clinical impacts during a one-year follow-up span.
