Sternoclavicular joint dislocation: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma Jun 28, 2019
Sernandez H, et al. - Through a systematic review and meta-analysis of 92 cases, the experts intended to determine the expected outcome of sternoclavicular (SC) dislocations that are left untreated, the indications for closed and open reduction of SC dislocations, along with the need for a cardiothoracic surgeon to be available for the open reduction of an SC dislocation. The authors noted individual cases of acute SC joint dislocations that were recorded in the literature. For the estimation of total patients treated and with what treatment option, the cases were categorized into a spreadsheet. Complications that accompanied treatment were also recorded, enabling for quantitative analysis of patient outcomes Hence, on the basis of the current body of literature, in the acute setting and open treatment performed in cases of failed closed reduction in posterior SC dislocations, closed reduction should be tried.
