Statin use and risk of tuberculosis: A systemic review of observational studies
International Journal of Infectious Diseases Jan 30, 2020
Duan H, Liu T, Zhang X, et al. - Researchers sought to determine the specific impacts of statins on the risk of tuberculosis in diabetic patients and in the general population. Searching four databases from inception up to July 2019, they included six observational articles with 2,073,968 patients; these comprised 4 cohort articles, 1 nested case-control and 1 abstract. The analysis suggests a relation of statin use to a considerably lower risk of tuberculosis both in diabetic patients and the general population. However, they recommend practicing caution while interpreting these conclusions in view of the possible remaining confounding.
