Spine kinematics exhibited during the stop-jump by physically-active individuals with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and spinal fusion
The Spine Journal Oct 03, 2017
Kakar RS, et al. - This study assessed spinal kinematics of the trunk segments displayed during the stop-jump among spinal fusion (SF)-adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) versus healthy controls (CON) groups. During a high intensity stop-jump task, similar trunk kinematics were displayed by SF-AIS individuals who participated in physical activity on a regular basis and their matched healthy peers. In addition, for relative angular displacements of the spine, fewer group differences were observed than anticipated, indicating a synchronous movement of the fused middle trunk (MT) with the lower trunk (LT), thereby suggesting a compensatory adaptation of SF-AIS to achieve sufficient trunk movements during this high-effort movement.
