Socioeconomic factors and clinical outcomes among patients with heart failure in a universal healthcare system
JACC: Heart Failure Aug 30, 2019
Schjødt I, et al. - Researchers explored the connections between socioeconomic factors, readmission, and mortality in patients with incident heart failure (HF) and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) in a tax-financed universal healthcare system. The study sample consisted of 17,122 patients with incident HFrEF. According to results, low income was linked to a higher risk of all-cause and non-HF readmission within 1 to 12 months after HF diagnosis and with HF readmission within 3 to 12 months among patients with incident HFrEF in a tax-financed universal healthcare system. During the follow-up, low-income patients also had a higher number of hospital bed days and a higher mortality rate.
