SIRPB1 promotes prostate cancer cell proliferation via Akt activation
The Prostate Jan 14, 2020
Song Q, Qin S, Pascal LE, et al. - Because signal regulatory protein β1 (SIRPB1) is a signal regulatory protein member of the immunoglobulin superfamily and is able of modulating receptor tyrosine kinase-coupled signaling. Copy number variations at the SIRPB1 locus were priorly reported to correlate with prostate cancer aggressiveness in people. Investigators sought to determine the role of SIRPB1 in prostate carcinogenesis. To determine SIRPB1 gene amplification and messenger RNA expression in prostate cancer specimens they utilized fluorescence in situ hybridization and laser-capture microdissection coupled with quantitative polymerase chain reaction. On the basis of silico analysis of several publicly available datasets, SIRPB1 gene amplification was discovered in up to 37.5% of prostate cancer specimens. In prostate cancer specimens, SIRPB1 gene amplification and overexpression were detected. The study suggests that the capability of potential oncogene SIRPB1 for activating Akt signaling to stimulate prostate cancer proliferation and this oncogene could be a biomarker for people at risk of developing aggressive prostate cancer.
