Single-stage treatment of chronically infected total hip arthroplasty with cementless reconstruction: Results in 126 patients with broad inclusion criteria
The Bone & Joint Journal Apr 05, 2019
Ji B, et al. - In this study, authors delineated 126 individuals to assess the consequences of single-stage revision of chronic infection in total hip arthroplasty (THA) (using broad inclusion criteria and cementless implants). They observed 99 cases free of infection at a mean follow-up time of 58 months (24 to 107). They noticed recurrent infection in 4 of the 23 patients with the culture-negative infected hip. A success rate of 84.2% was reported in subjects with multidrug-resistant organisms. They recorded 79.6 points, the mean postoperative Harris hip score at the concurrent assessment. They suggested routine single-stage revision with cementless reconstruction, a suitable choice to manage chronically infected THA.
