Single-field non-mydriatic fundus photography for diabetic retinopathy screening: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Ophthalmic Research May 13, 2019
Hu J, et al. - Via performing a meta-analysis, researchers evaluate the diagnostic effectiveness of single-field non-mydriatic fundus photography (NMFP) for diabetic retinopathy (DR) screening. Analysis of 10 prospective studies revealed the inadequacy of single-field NMFP to detect DR. Single-field NMFP compared to standard 7-field mydriatic stereoscopic photography (7SF) had sensitivity and specificity of 0.73 and 0.91, respectively, and compared to slit-lamp biomicroscopy as reference standard had 0.54 and 0.98, respectively. This suggests that the diagnostic results could be affected by different reference standards used in DR screening.
