Short-TErm Psychotherapy IN Acute Myocardial Infarction (STEP-IN-AMI) Trial: Final Results
American Journal of Medicine Feb 18, 2019
Pristipino C, et al. - In patients with a recent acute myocardial infarction (AMI), researchers ascertained if short-term psychotherapy improves long-term clinical outcomes. For this investigation, 94 patients (aged ≤70 years) were randomized to short-term ontopsychological psychotherapy and routine medical therapy only vs routine medical therapy within 1 week of their AMI. Investigators found that the addition of short-term ontopsychological psychotherapy to routine secondary myocardial infarction prevention improves overall clinical results up to 5 years after AMI. During follow-up, studying time trends might help in better targeting of psychological interventions. In order to confirm these results, larger studies remain necessary.
