Short-term outcome of ischemic stroke patients with systemic malignancy
Stroke Jan 16, 2019
Yoo J, et al. - In patients with acute ischemic stroke and systemic malignancy, researchers identified the factors associated with 6-month mortality. For this investigation, they retrospectively analyzed consecutive stroke patients with systemic malignancy. Out of 468 ischemic stroke patients with systemic malignancy during an 8-year period, 223 patients had nonactive cancer, 140 patients had metastasis, and 105 patients had active nonmetastatic cancer. The presence of metastasis and the cancer type were crucial factors correlated with 6-month mortality in stroke patients with active cancer; specifically, gastric/esophageal cancer and pancreatic cancer were independently related to 6-month mortality.
