Sex-specific treatment effects after primary percutaneous intervention: A study on coronary blood flow and delay to hospital presentation

Journal of the American Heart Association Feb 21, 2019

Cenko E, et al. - Investigators assessed over 2,000 participants to evaluate the impact of sex-specific treatment following primary percutaneous intervention (PCI) for ST-segment–elevation myocardial infarction from 2010 to 2016. The rate of suboptimal post-PCI Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI; flow grade 0–2) was the key secondary outcome. An association of female sex with postprocedural TIMI flow grade 0-2 and higher 30-day mortality was evident. No significant sex gap in mortality was observed for participants with hospital presentation of ≤ 120 minutes.
