Sex-specific differences in etiology and prognosis in patients with significant tricuspid regurgitation

The American Journal of Cardiology Mar 04, 2021

Dietz MF, Prihadi EA, van der Bijl P, et al. - Researchers examined disparities in etiology, comorbidities, echocardiographic parameters as well as prognosis between males and females experiencing significant tricuspid regurgitation (TR). This analysis involved 1,569 patients (age 71 (62-78) years), including 798 (51%) females and 771 (49%) males. Diagnosis of significant TR was received at an older age in females vs males. In women, left valvular disease related and isolated TR was more frequent whereas males more often suffered from left ventricular dysfunction associated TR. Findings revealed a similar long-term survival between males and females with significant TR following propensity score matching, while TR etiology continued to be significantly related to all-cause mortality.
