Sex-related differences in management and outcome of acute ischemic stroke in eligible patients to thrombolysis
Cerebrovascular Diseases May 28, 2019
Fraticelli L, et al. - On a French registry based on a federated network of emergency physicians and neurologists, researchers compared the management and outcome of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) between women and men. Between 2010 and 2016, 2,790 patients receiving tPA from stroke centers in the RESUVal area were included. In thrombolyzed AIS, a comprehensive overview and real-life professional practice conditions were provided. Despite later prehospital management in neurovascular units and more severe admission strokes, both women and men had similar outcomes at hospital discharge and 3-month survival, but at 3 months, women were related to the worst functional outcome.
