Sex differences in New York Heart Association classification and survival in acute heart failure patients with preserved or reduced ejection fraction
Canadian Journal of Cardiology Aug 28, 2019
Kajimoto K, et al. - In acute decompensated heart failure (HF) patients with preserved or reduced ejection fraction (EF), researchers assessed the influence of sex on the relation between the New York Heart Association (NYHA) classification and survival. Of the 4,842 patients enlisted in the Acute Decompensated Heart Failure Syndrome (ATTEND) registry, 4,717 patients were investigated to evaluate sex affiliation, NYHA class, and all-cause death preserved or decreased EF. The authors concluded that NYHA class IV was a significant predictor of all-cause death in both sexes with preserved EF, whereas NYHA class IV was a significant predictor of all-cause death in females, but not in males, in decreased EF patients.
