Sex differences in investigations and outcomes among patients with type 2 myocardial infarction
Heart Apr 27, 2021
Kimenai DM, Lindahl B, Chapman AR, et al. - Among patients suffering from type 2 myocardial infarction (MI), this inquiry was conducted to assess gender disparities in clinical features, investigations as well as outcomes. Researchers used SWEDEHEART registry (Swedish Web based system for Enhancement and Development of Evidence based care in Heart disease Evaluated According to Recommended Therapies), to involve 57,264 and 6,485 patients with type 1 and type 2 MI, respectively, in this study. An equal occurrence of type 2 MI between men and women was revealed, and there was no gender bias in the selection of patients for cardiac investigations. Worse outcomes were experienced by patients with type 2 MI, but there was less likelihood to suffer from obstructive coronary artery disease or severe left ventricular impairment as well as more chances of survival among females when compared with males.
