Serum levels of syndecan-1 in patients with Kawasaki disease
The Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal Dec 17, 2018
Luo L, et al. - Researchers measured syndecan-1 (SDC-1), a major core protein in subjects [119 children with Kawasaki disease (KD), 43 healthy children as normal controls and 40 children with a febrile disease] to analyze the association between serum levels of SDC-1 and the coronary artery lesions (CALs) in acute phase of KD and also to estimate serum SDC-1 level. They found elevated levels of serum SDC-1, albumin, and hemoglobin in KD cases and KD with CALs. They noted that SDC-1 serum levels might be used potentially for coronary artery protection in KD cases as SDC-1 serum levels could reflect vascular endothelial damage and inflammation in KD.
