Serum amyloid a protein as a potential biomarker in predicting acute onset and association with in-hospital death in acute aortic dissection
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Dec 18, 2019
He Y, et al. - Researchers aimed to evaluate the serum amyloid A (SAA: a kind of acute-phase protein) levels in acute aortic dissection (AAD: a life-threatening disorder in vascular surgery) patients and explored its potential diagnostic role in these patients. Using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, they assessed SAA levels in 63 controls and 87 AAD patients. Findings revealed significantly enhanced SAA levels in AAD. They identified a close relation of SAA with inflammatory parameters and coagulation-related parameters in AAD. Furthermore, SAA seemed to be significant as a bio-marker for recognizing AAD in the early diagnosis. Finally, they observed an independent correlation of SAA > 5.0 mg/L with AAD in-hospital mortality.
