Self-management in long-term prostate cancer survivors: A randomized, controlled trial
Journal of Clinical Oncology Apr 03, 2019
Skolarus TA, et al. - In this randomized clinical trial, a personally tailored, automated telephone symptom management intervention to improve self-management among long-term survivors of prostate cancer was compared with usual care enhanced with a nontailored newsletter about symptom management. Among a total of 556 prostate cancer survivors who, more than 1 year after treatment, were experiencing symptom burden, 278 participants were randomly assigned to the intervention group and 278 to the usual care group. Veterans who were long-term survivors of prostate cancer well received this intervention. The intervention tailored to the symptom area of choice seems promising to reduce the associated burden despite there were no overall outcome differences across groups.
