Secondary breast angiosarcoma: A multicentre retrospective survey by the national Italian association of Breast Surgeons (ANISC)
The Breast Apr 29, 2019
Taffurelli M, et al. - Because secondary breast angiosarcoma (SBA) may be associated with chronic lymphedema following mastectomy with lymph node dissection (Stewart Treves syndrome) and previous radiation therapy for breast radiation therapy complications, researchers analyzed clinicopathological features and management of this disease in this investigation. Twenty-four centers took part in this survey that analyzed 112 SBA cases. Findings revealed that secondary breast angiosarcoma is a very aggressive disease related to a short survival result. The surgical approach remains an important step in the course of treatment; moreover, it is helpful to establish the patient's prognosis by accurate histological examination. It is mandatory to have a mastectomy. Compared to high-grade angiosarcoma, a longer overall survival was observed in patients with low-grade angiosarcoma.
