Scar overlapping suture for treating chronic tendinous mallet finger in children
Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research Mar 03, 2019
Zhang L, et al. - Researchers investigated the efficacy of scar overlapping suture for treating chronic tendinous mallet finger deformity in children via analyzing 6 patients treated surgically by scar overlapping suture technique, featuring careful overlapping suture of the extensor scar and temporary transarticular Kirschner wire fixation of the distal interphalangeal joint (DIPJ). With an average follow-up of 3.1 years (ranging from 2 to 5 years) significant improvement in DIPJ activity was observed in all patients. Outcomes suggest that for treating chronic tendinous mallet finger in children, scar overlapping suture is a safe and effective option. All patients were graded as excellent according to the Crawford criteria.
