Safety and efficacy of a standardized intracameral combination of mydriatics and anesthetic for cataract surgery in type-2 diabetic patients
BMC Ophthalmology Mar 09, 2020
Labetoulle M, Behndig A, Tassignon MJ, et al. - In patients with well-controlled type-2 diabetes, researchers tested the effectiveness and safety of an intracameral combination of 2 mydriatics and 1 anesthetic (ICMA, Mydrane) for cataract surgery. They obtained data from 68 centers in Europe and Algeria. In the phase 3 study, 57 patients with controlled T2DM were involved among the 591 randomized patients. According to findings, ICMA is beneficial and can be used safely in patients with well-controlled diabetes, with potential advantages over a topical regimen including reduced systemic risk, better corneal integrity and lessened risk of ocular complications.
