Pose-Bazarra S, et al. - Herein, the researchers conducted an appraisal of the role of lens extraction and laser peripheral iridotomy (LPI) interventions for the treatment of glaucoma. The yielded data supported the intraocular pressure (IOP)-lowering effect of cataract surgery in people with coexisting cataract and glaucoma. Clear lens extraction (CLE) was reported to be an option in the initial treatment of some patients with primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG), owing to its superiority against LPI.
