Role of food insecurity in prescription delay among adults with asthma: Results from the California Health Interview Survey
Journal of Asthma Oct 25, 2019
Becerra MB, et al. - Utilizing the California Health Interview Survey, researchers investigated if food insecurity can result in a delay in prescription medication for adults with asthma in California. They performed survey weighted descriptive, univariate, and multivariable logistic regression analyses. Overall 11,645 observations, expressing an average annual population size of 1,085,481 was included. Depending on adjusted odds ratio, the probability of reporting delay in asthma prescription was 148% more in food insecure adults vs those who were food secure. Since findings revealed delay in prescription, and therefore suitable healthcare, experts recommended implementation of targeted measures at point of care in order to make sure early detection of such at-risk patients and offer resources for food aid to guarantee optimal health outcomes.
