Risks of cause-specific mortality in offspring of pregnancies complicated by hypertensive disease of pregnancy
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Jul 24, 2019
Hammad IA, et al. - Risk for early mortality among offspring of pregnancies complicated by hypertensive disease of pregnancy (HDP) was determined. For this retrospective cohort study, researchers identified offspring from delivery diagnoses of gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, or eclampsia among offspring born to women with singleton or twin pregnancies between 1947-1967 with birth certificate information in the Utah Population Database. Further, they matched offspring from these pregnancies (exposed) to offspring of pregnancies without HDP (unexposed) by maternal age at delivery, birth year, sex, and multiple gestation. As per outcomes, offspring of pregnancies complicated by HDP in a United States population had higher overall mortality risks compared to unexposed offspring. Association between HDP exposure and cardiovascular disease mortality was not significant among siblings.
