Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology Aug 01, 2018
Meyer J, et al. - In patients with acute diverticulitis, researchers evaluated the occurrence of colorectal cancer through a systematic review and meta-analysis. For this investigation, they searched MEDLINE from inception through November 2, 2017 for studies reporting the prevalence of colorectal cancer in patients with diverticulitis, identified based on the protocol CRD42017083272. In accordance with the MOOSE guidelines, this systematic review was conducted. The findings demonstrated that the pooled prevalence of colorectal cancer was 1.9%. As compared to patients with uncomplicated diverticulitis, the risk of colorectal cancer was significantly higher in patients with complicated diverticulitis. Meta-regression did not observe any correlation between age and colorectal cancer.
