Risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in healthy individuals with high C-reactive protein levels by smoking status: A population-based cohort study in Korea
International Journal of COPD Sep 08, 2019
Lim SY, Zhao D, Guallar E, et al. - Researchers undertook this cohort study to determine if there exists a link between elevated baseline serum C-reactive protein (CRP) levels and risk of incident chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) by smoking status among healthy individuals, using flexible parametric proportional hazards models and pooled logistic regression analyses. The participants (n = 63,260) were adult men and women, older than 40 years, free of COPD at baseline. Findings revealed an increased risk to develop COPD in ever smokers but not in never smokers in correlation with higher baseline high-sensitivity CRP.
