Risk factors for retinal breaks during macular hole surgery
Clinical Ophthalmology Oct 15, 2018
Sakamoto M, et al. - Authors identified the risk factors for retinal breaks during macular hole (MH) surgery in this retrospective, observational, comparative study that included medical records of 364 consecutive patients who underwent vitrectomy for MH (January 2012–May 2017). Based on the study findings, the authors recommended that ophthalmologists be aware of the increased risk of retinal breaks during MH surgery in eyes with lattice degeneration. They also noted the unlikelihood of intraoperative retinal breaks in eyes with lattice degeneration treated by photocoagulation preoperatively.
