Risk factors for infective endocarditis following transcatheter pulmonary valve replacement in patients with congenital heart disease
Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions Sep 08, 2019
Sadeghi S, Wadia S, Lluri G, et al. - In this retrospective review, researchers investigated factors that conferred risk for infective endocarditis (IE) in patients undergoing transcatheter pulmonary valve replacement (TCPVR). Researchers used modified Duke criteria for IE diagnosis. Overall, 235 cases of TCPVR were performed. The mean observation period was of 2.6 years (range 0.0–8.0 years). Among all risk factors examined, immunocompromised status was identified as the most important predictor of IE development following TCPVR. Patients with competent immune systems, without a history of IE, and with minimal residual pulmonary valve gradients after TCPVR exhibited the lowest risk of IE.
