Return to dance and predictors of outcome after hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement syndrome
Arthroscopy Mar 16, 2019
Ukwuani GC, et al. - A sum of 64 dancers with mean age, 22.3 ± 9.4 years and body mass index, 22.8 ± 4.1, were estimated to evaluate the frequency of return to dance and also the factors determining it after hip arthroscopy for the treatment of femoroacetabular impingement syndrome. They noticed 97% of cases after surgery returned to dance at an average of 6.9 ± 2.9 months; 62.5% were reported with a return to a better level of participation, whereas 20 dancers returned to the equal level of participation. Although, a significant decline in the number of hours of dance postoperatively: 11.5 ± 8.2 h/wk preoperatively vs 9.0 ± 7.3 h/wk postoperatively, was recorded. They concluded the dance experience level as the single significant factor affecting return-to-dance outcomes. They also found competitive dancers exhibiting a high-speed return to dancing.
